Privacy Policy

DrinkSmart+ is a privacy-first application designed to support informed decision making around alcohol consumption. Trust and transparency are core to how the app is designed and operated. DrinkSmart+ is owned and operated by AwareNow LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the DrinkSmart+ app and this website collect, how we use, store, and share it, and the choices and controls available to you.

Information we collect

DrinkSmart+ collects only the information needed to provide the features you use. Depending on how you use the app and this website, this may include:

• Information you provide. Food and drink entries, hydration and nutrition details, and optional profile details such as weight and gender that improve estimate accuracy. If you add an emergency contact, the contact details you enter. If you contact us or join the waitlist, the details you submit.
• Information from your activity in the app. Session history and timestamps, and, for participating-location features, session and location identifiers, order and receipt details, payment status, and notification delivery information.
• Information you allow through device permissions. Location for participating-location features, Camera or Photos for scan features, Contacts when you choose an emergency contact, Notifications for alerts, and Apple Health data you authorize (such as date of birth used to confirm age eligibility).
• Sign-in information. When you use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, the provider shares your name and email address so we can verify your identity and set up your access. See Third-party services.
• Age-verification information. If you choose to verify your age, limited data read from a scanned ID or an Apple Wallet ID. See Age verification.
• Website information. Waitlist and contact-form details, and, with your consent, limited analytics. See This website.

How we use your information

We use the information above only to operate the features you choose. Specifically, we use it to:

• Provide core features such as estimates, logs, product and image scanning, health insights, and profile setup.
• Verify your identity and set up and secure your access to the app.
• Confirm age eligibility for age-restricted features.
• Coordinate participating-location features, including routing requests between you and the location, keeping session and order status updated, and delivering requested notifications.
• Send safety assistance alerts to an emergency contact you have added, with consent.
• Maintain reliability, prevent abuse, respond to your requests, and meet legal, payment-related, or security obligations.

How your information is stored and protected

DrinkSmart+ is designed so your personal drinking, nutrition, health, and wellness history stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers during ordinary app use.

Optional synchronization through your personal iCloud account may be used to support continuity across your devices. Because this uses your own iCloud, the synced data resides in your Apple account and is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

When you use an online feature, DrinkSmart+ processes only the limited information needed to provide it. For participating-location features, this may include session and location identifiers, limited age-eligibility status, order and receipt details, payment status, notification delivery information, emergency-contact consent or status, timestamps, and support or contact details you submit. Reasonable safeguards are used to protect your data from unauthorized access.

How we share information

DrinkSmart+ does not sell or rent your personal data, and does not share it for advertising or marketing. We share information only in these limited ways:

• Participating locations. When you check in, we may share a limited age-status indicator (such as whether you appear to be 21 or older) and the session and order information needed to provide service. We do not share full government ID data or Apple Wallet identity data with the location. The location may keep the operational order, receipt, or service records it needs to run its business. • Emergency contacts. If you add an emergency contact and they accept, a safety assistance alert may be sent to them when you may need help at a checked-in participating location. See Emergency contacts.
• Service providers. Providers that process data on our behalf to run the service, such as Microsoft Azure (hosting) and hosted scanning services. See Third-party services.
• Legal and safety. If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users, the public, or DrinkSmart+.

Age verification

DrinkSmart+ lets you voluntarily verify that you are 21 or older in order to use age-restricted features such as alcohol ordering at participating locations. You may choose between two methods, and using either is optional.

Physical ID scan. You may scan the barcode on a government-issued driver's license or ID. DrinkSmart+ reads the information on your device to determine age eligibility. This scanned ID data is stored locally on your device.

Apple Wallet digital ID. If you have an ID in Apple Wallet, you can verify your age with it instead of scanning a physical ID. This requires your approval with Face ID or Touch ID. DrinkSmart+ receives only what it needs to confirm eligibility: confirmation that you are 21 or older, your name, the ID's expiration date, and license class. This information is used during the check-in process and is not stored by DrinkSmart+ or its servers.

No third-party services collect or retain personal data on behalf of DrinkSmart+ for age verification.

Emergency contacts

DrinkSmart+ allows you to add an emergency contact so that safety assistance alerts can be sent if you may need help at a checked-in participating location. When you add an emergency contact, that person is invited to serve as an emergency contact within DrinkSmart+ and must accept the request before any alerts can be sent. If the person does not accept the request, DrinkSmart+ will not send safety assistance alerts to them.

An emergency contact can decline the role, turn off alert notifications, or remove themselves at any time. An emergency contact's information is used only for the invitation and safety assistance features, and never for marketing or promotional messages.

Data retention

Local app data remains on your device until you delete it. Information processed for online features is retained only as long as needed for the feature, operational reliability, legal or payment-related obligations, and abuse prevention. Transient session records are deleted or expired when they are no longer needed. Waitlist and contact-form details you submit on this website are kept until you ask us to delete them, subject to records we must keep for legal, payment, security, or operational reasons.

Your choices and rights

You remain in control of your data:

• Local app data can be deleted at any time by removing the app.
• Health data access can be managed through Apple Health settings.
• Location, Camera, Photos, Contacts, Notifications, and other app permissions can be reviewed and revoked in iOS system settings.
• You can unsubscribe from launch emails at any time, and change or withdraw analytics consent using the "Analytics preferences" link in the site footer.
• You can ask us to access or delete information you submitted to DrinkSmart+ by emailing us, subject to records we must keep for legal, payment, security, or operational reasons.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information, such as the rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of it, or to opt out of its sale or sharing. DrinkSmart+ does not sell or share personal data for advertising. To exercise any right, contact us using the details below. We will not deny you service for exercising these rights.

Third-party services

Apple. DrinkSmart+ relies on Apple provided services such as Apple Health and Apple Wallet, which operate under Apple's own privacy policies. DrinkSmart+ also offers Sign in with Apple. Apple handles the sign-in and your password; DrinkSmart+ never sees your Apple credentials. When you sign in, Apple verifies your identity and shares your name and email address with DrinkSmart+, and you can use Apple's Hide My Email option to share a private relay address instead of your personal one.

Google. DrinkSmart+ also offers Sign in with Google. Google handles the sign-in and your password; DrinkSmart+ never sees your Google credentials. When you sign in, Google verifies your identity and shares your name and email address with DrinkSmart+.

We use the name and email from either provider only to verify your identity and set up your access to the app. We do not receive your contacts or any other data from these accounts.

Product or image scanning. If you choose to scan a food, drink, menu, or label, barcode values, images, or related text may be processed by hosted services to identify the item and estimate nutrition. This feature is optional and is used only to return the scan result.

Hosting. This website and DrinkSmart+ online features are hosted on Microsoft Azure, which processes the limited information described in this policy on our behalf.

This website

When you join the waitlist or use the contact form on this website, we store the details you submit (your email address, and for the contact form your name, topic and message) so we can reply to you or let you know when DrinkSmart+ launches. We do not use these for advertising, and you can ask us to delete them at any time.

Cookies and analytics. With your consent, this website uses Microsoft Application Insights and Google Analytics to understand general traffic, page views, device type, approximate location, and site reliability. Each of these has its own toggle in the consent notice and loads only if you turn it on, so you can allow one and not the other. Both honor your browser's Do Not Track setting. Application Insights runs without cookies; Google Analytics sets analytics cookies and is configured to anonymize IP addresses and to disable advertising and ad-personalization signals. Analytics are never used for advertising. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the "Analytics preferences" link in the site footer.

What we do not do

DrinkSmart+ does not collect or store government-issued identification images. We do not retain full dates of birth for identification purposes. We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not use third-party advertising networks.

Children's privacy and age requirements

DrinkSmart+ is rated for users 17 and older and is not directed to children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it.

General features such as nutrition and consumption insights are available to users 17 and older. Age-restricted features, including alcohol ordering at participating locations, require you to verify that you are 21 or older. Users who are under 21, or who have not completed age verification, cannot access these alcohol-related features.

Important disclaimer

DrinkSmart+ is an informational tool only. It is not a medical, legal, safety, or driving-decision tool. Estimated blood alcohol content figures are approximations for educational purposes and vary by metabolism, food, medication, health, timing and other factors. Never use them to decide whether it is safe to drive.

Changes to this policy

This privacy policy may be updated as features evolve. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
